How We Work -- 5 Simple Steps to Your Dream Home

If you’ve never been through the design & remodeling process before, or even if you have, working with the W.C. Design Center makes the process easy right from the beginning.

Step 1: Set up an In-home Consultation with one of our Designers

You'll meet and talk with one of our experienced and friendly designers.  Your designer will spend some time getting to know you and discuss the challenges and opportunities your project may present.  She will want to get a sense of your overall style, likes & dislikes, and lifestyle in order to determine your unique design and functionality needs.  She will usually take measurements and may review some basic material ideas in order to begin working on your free general estimate for your project.  You will be asked if you have a budget in mind.  While it is best to have some numbers in mind at this time in order to give your designer some parameters to work within, its OK if you don't have an exact amount for budgeting quite yet.  Many people who have not worked with a designer or remodeled before are not aware of the investment required.  That is where our extensive knowledge of cabinetry, counter tops, flooring, plumbing & electrical work, and building codes, along with finish items like furniture, window treatments, and accessories all come into play.  Usually we can review some of the basics for your particular project and help to provide you with some approximate budget parameters as a "jumping off point" during this visit.

Step 2:  Your designer will head back to our Design Center and get to work.

She will review the aesthetic and functional needs you discussed in your meeting and combine them with your budget parameters to begin creating the design for your new space.  She will develop floor plan and layout ideas and begin scouring through our many cabinet, stone, tile, and fabric samples from our fantastic line of vendors in order to find the best materials to achieve your desired look and fit within your budget.  To illustrate the look of your remodeled space, she may make some sketches to bring to the next appointment.

Lead times:  It usually takes us 5 - 7 working days to price or design a project. If a price or design is required before that time, a non-refundable fee of $125.00 is charged.

Step 3: 2nd Appointment: In-home design presentation

You and your family will meet again with our designer to review the new ideas she has come up with and go over a basic estimate.  She will bring some samples of the materials she has selected to use in the project so that you can experience our cabinetry, countetop, and fabric lines first hand in your own home.  If she has made any drawings or sketches, those will also be reviewed.  It is important for all of the decision makers within your family to be present at this appointment so that they can see the exciting plan and provide input and feedback to the designer.

Step 4: Retainer & Design Progression

If you like what you see and would like to see a comprehensive design, we will ask for a retainer. Typically, the retainer is 2% of the estimated budget.  This commitment allows us to spend valuable time further developing your project. We will provide complete drawings and specifications and work with you to narrow down selections choose the exact products, cabinet style and finish, fixtures, flooring, and other details that are all part of a successful project. We will also need to send out our sub-contractors to walk through your home and discuss the plans in order to verify the full extent of labor involved and create a time schedule for the project.  We pride ourselves on providing extremely professional attention to detail during the design process so that there will be less surprises once we reach the construction / installation phase. We’re flexible, creative and value oriented.

Lead timesThis process can take anywhere from a week to a few months depending on the size of the project, the details involved, and the changes made.

Step 5: Final Contract & Project Start

After we have finalized your design, the rest is up to us. We will prepare a contract for you to sign and ask for a deposit to begin. The retainer fee that you gave us is applied to the total contract price. We will begin ordering products and writing work orders. Your project will be scheduled and installation started as soon as your cabinetry and the other products have arrived. Our professional installers work under the direction of your designer throughout the entire project - from demolition to cleanup - ensuring that the construction conforms to your exact design specifications.
